2. Family assessment

Our social worker and local probation officer will conduct a home visit and complete an in-depth assessment, including reference check.

3. Social worker visit

Our social worker will schedule an initial home visit with you and your family.

4. Panel review

The social worker will present your assessment to the Governor Adoption Panel.

5. Child match

Once approved, you will be matched with a child once he or she becomes available for adoption.

6. Child bonding

Our social worker will provide a 2-3 week plan to gain familiarity with the child prior to him/her becoming part of your family. This includes visitations, outings, and overnight stays.

7. Taking the child home

This marks the beginning of the one year pre-adoptive fostering period. Our social worker and probation officer will carry out regular follow-up visits during this time to track the progress of the child.

8. Legalizing adoption

Upon completion of the pre-adoptive fostering period, as required by Ugandan law, the adoption is made legal by a court order.

9. Adoption support

Adoption support is available at any time after the adoption to assist with navigating the challenges of introducing a new member of the family.
